Iranians use silver nanoparticles to produce a substance that serves as a dental filling.
Iranian scientists have recently registered the invention of a gutta-percha coated with silver nanoparticles, which can be used as an alternative to existing dental filling agents.
According to the study, the new compound has anti-wear, antibacterial and antifungal properties, so it can be used in the treatment of problems related to the root of the teeth.
"Following the detection of the antibacterial effects of the newly introduced silver nanoparticles, gutta-percha was coated with a thin layer of silver for the first time in the world," said Seyed Omid Dianat, inventor of the new dental filling agent, for the Iranian Nanotechnology website.
According to the study, gutta-percha coated with silver nanoparticles is effective in fighting Staphylococcus aureus, E-coli, Enterococcus faecalis and Candida albicans.
